Mullite (3Al2O3 2SiO2) is a refractory oxide material combining low thermal expansion, good mechanical strength, and resilience at elevated temperatures.
Mullite tubing is used as heating element supports and pass thru insulator tubes for heating element terminal lead wires. 
Protects and insulates heating element leads from shorting out against metal framework.
